Stories

You say you have a story that’s so very hard to hear
Well, no one has a tale to tell without its share of tears.
The path your steps have broken
Through this fragile land of time
Has yet to lead to what you hope to find.
All I’m gonna do
Is let you speak your mind,
And listen while this tale of yours unwinds
All that I can say, is you will find your way.
In time you’ll find the love beyond your tears
And while you do, you’ll find I’ll be right here.
I’ll tell you how I see it, and some ways you might get through
Though the road that I have traveled
Simply will not work for you.
Right now, you don’t believe it,
but someday this will all be past.
Because only love was ever meant to last.
All I’m gonna do
Is let you speak your mind,
And listen while this tale of yours unwinds
All that I can say, is you will find your way.
In time you’ll find the love beyond your tears
And while you do,
You’ll find I’ll be right here.
You need another story.
‘cause your old one isn’t true.
The only one believing it is you.

Massena
04:06
|
|||
After all the years come and gone,
The same old highway
calls me to the back of mind.
Lately, in the morning, I awaken from a memory
But my open eyes won’t get the picture right.
I know the corn was high that summer,
The air was hot and heavy,
I believed I had left my past behind
I got to look behind the glitter and the image of the city
In general, there’s less than meets the eye.
Well, if you were a friend of mine when I was singing love songs
In a coffeehouse just west of Illinois,
You wouldn’t be surprised to know I still recall Massena.
And, lately, I’ve been feeling like I need to go back home.
Cause if you want to leave New York City behind you,
This is about as far as you can go.
California’s still another halfway across the country,
But you won’t learn a thing there you don’t know.
I see the same old face as I get dressed each morning,
Sometimes I see the man, sometimes the child.
But now the man’s reflection Is someone I don’t recognize
In the moments that Massena’s on my mind.
I convince myself each morning that I’m only here on business
For a little while, to get back on my feet.
By the time I’ve had my coffee, I forget what I was thinking.
And I’m right back in the game I’ve tried so many times to leave
Well, if you were a friend of mine when I was singing folk songs
In a coffeehouse just west of Illinois,
You wouldn’t be surprised to know I still recall Massena.
And, lately, I’ve been feeling like I need to go back home.
Cause if you want to leave New York City behind you,
This is about as far as you can go.
California’s still another halfway across the country,
But you won’t learn a thing there you don’t know.

One More Tomorrow
03:30
|
|||
Winter wind getting in
Though my door’s shut tight.
Memories, last to leave
Before I sleep through the night
Promises I’ve yet to keep
Set my feet on the road
On the move, staying true
To something I heard long ago:
Give it one more tomorrow,
Don’t let go of your dreams.
Don’t let the silence
That follows your questions
Keep you from trying again.
In between where I’ve been
And what I hoped to find
I’ve followed streams
Of others’ dreams
And they’ve taken too much of my life
Now it’s time for me to drive
And find my way back home
I’ve wandered, lost
I’ve learned the cost
Now I’m taking back my soul.
Give it one more tomorrow,
Don’t let go of your dreams.
Don’t let the silence
That follows your questions
Keep you from trying again.

All My Visions
03:24
|
|||
With all of those yesterdays behind me,
It’s hard for me to know what’s on your mind.
I don’t know what my story does to your heart,
But I know what the memories do to mine.
I don’t know if you’ll hear me out or stand and walk away,
When I get through we’ll have it all or none.
I know I’m not the only man with hurting in his mind
But it’s time for the hurting to be done.
All my visions tell me it won’t matter,
You’ll take my hand and smile it all away.
But if I knew you wouldn’t leave me lonely,
It would all be much easier to say.
Though I’ve tried my best to get it right,
Make each mistake just once,
t’s true we all make plenty in our lives,
The man that I have been is not the man that I’ve become
And you’ve gotta have the truth
Before you make up your mind
I’ve been running as fast as I can to keep my distance,
But now I think I’ve run for far too long.
Now you’re here beside me,
And I don’t know where to start
I’m so afraid the words will come out wrong
All my visions tell me it won’t matter,
You’ll take my hand and smile it all away.
But if I knew you wouldn’t leave me lonely,
It would all be much easier to say.

Fool Me Once
04:22
|
|||
I’ve never been the kind to give up easy
I’ve been known to hold on beyond all reason
Somewhere along the way
This life I made
Faded into grey
And I’m out of ideas.
I thought I could believe the things you told me,
I thought we were in this to the end.
You wanted one more star for your tiara,
Shame on me for thinking you wanted a friend.
Well, you fooled me once. I can be a bit too trusting.
You fooled me twice, I didn’t want to see.
I gotta change the way I hear the things you say
‘cause you’re too good at making a fool of me.
I always thought one day we’d talk about the bad times
And wonder why we let them go on so long.
But that day can never come until those times are done.
I’d really like to wait, but I’m not that strong.
No, I’m not that strong.
Let me take this moment to remind you
There’s some things even love cannot survive.
The morning never comes
Til the time for dark is done
And truth will never sleep beside a lie.
Well, you fooled me once, I can be a bit too trusting.
You fooled me twice, I didn’t want to see.
I gotta change the way I hear the things you say
‘cause you’re too good at making a fool of me.
